Siemens 64 slice Dual Source Somatom Definition
- This advanced scanner uses two X-ray sources and two detector banks, providing double the temporal resolution and double the speed of a standard 64 Multi-Detector CT scanner.
- This Dual Source CT provides state-of-the-art imaging with exceptional quality whole body imaging in less than 15 seconds.
- Our patients benefit from the latest software applications including 3D virtual rendering, computer aided detection of pulmonary nodules and colonic polyps, and virtual CT colonography.

- Dual energy imaging allows differentiation and characterization of different body tissues. Dual energy applications include orthopaedic imaging – the visualisation of tendons and ligaments in addition to bony structures, urological imaging – the characterisation of renal/ureteric stones, vascular imaging – high quality angiography including the ability to subtract adjacent bony structures in complicated anatomical regions e.g. the base of skull and characterisation of atherosclerotic plaques, advanced pulmonary imaging – perfused blood volume mapping for the diagnosis of pulmonary emboli, and advanced liver imaging - the characterisation of liver lesions .
- Whole organ/tumour perfusion imaging can be performed as a simple addition to standard diagnostic CT, allowing our clinicians to assess and quantify organ/tumour perfusion and angiogenesis, e.g. in the assessment of novel cancer drugs in clinical trials.
