Chenies Spring Walk Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May 2010
With more than 340 walkers taking part this year, the Chenies Spring Walk was a great day out for all. Participants were treated to a goodie pack of apples, health bar and water to start them off on the right foot. At the end of the walk many took advantage of their free pass into the famous Chenies Manor Tulip Gardens.
We would like to thank our business donors for their kind support of the event – Chenies Manor, General Mills, Mr & Mrs Marsh, Pearson Building and Xceed Driving Academy. The wonderful support given to us by participants has raised £4653.92 towards the Scanner Appeal. A hearty thank you to all who took part, we look forward to seeing you next year and welcome all newcomers to the event. If you would like to join in next year please read the details below and download your 2011 booking form. For those interested in sponsoring the event please call Rina on 01923 844290.
The circular walk is approximately 6 miles long through the picturesque Chess Valley. Walkers start out at Chenies Manor, head for Latimer village and then make their way towards Sarratt Bottom and finally complete the walk back at Chenies village. The route includes 3 short cuts for those wanting to walk a shorter distance. You will go through fields and woods and over stiles and we suggest that all participants wear suitable footwear and clothing. We welcome all members of the family but bear in mind the walk is not suitable for pushchairs.
Download your Chenies 2011 booking form here.
If you are able to help as a volunteer for this event please call Rina or Caroline on 01923 844290.

Sailing away with the Scanner Appeal
The crew of DoForMe took part in this year’s Round
the Island Race in support of the Paul Strickland Scanner Appeal on Saturday 19th June. The
team came in 122nd out of 1700 yatchts – what a fabulous achievement. Below is a short write up from the Crew![]() “After a slow start everything was set up and money started coming in. Many donated through the justgiving web site, and we organised a raffle through Queensmead Sailing Club, which was drawn on 29th June. On the day before the race we practiced setting the spinnaker and the ‘Man Overboard’ drill – with a real man! Then on the day of the Race it was: Up at 5am. Huge queue for the toilets! Start: off Cowes at 06.20. Spinnaker up and we pick our way through the fleet down to the Needles |
Beat down the south coast of the Isalnd. Slightly overpowered by a Force 5 gail, but no one wants to put the reef in. After being laid over a few times we change our minds and reef down the sails!![]() We turn the corner towards Bembridge and head towards – and over the Rye sands, with just 0.2 metres beneath our keel. Then a hard beat towards the finish and it’s over. No injuries. No damage to the boat. Finish 122nd out of 1700. Not a bad improvement on last year. Then it was Party Time in Cowes and off to bed. With money still coming in, Skipper Graeme Hughes and his crew have raised £1399.13. A very welcome floating fund for the Appeal. You can still support the crew by visiting their online sponsorship page at justgiving.com/Round-the-Island-Race-2010 For more information about the race and those that provided support click here.
