Runners raising funds for the Paul Strickland Scanner CentreSome of the team

10km to save lives of cancer patients

On Sunday 10th July 2011, some 26,000 runners took part in the British 10K London Run. Amongst them were a team of seventeen runners raising funds for the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, a medical charity based at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood Middlesex. To date the team has raised £6,096.97 which goes towards the Scanner Appeal for the early and accurate diagnosis of cancer, which saves lives.

The weather conditions were a tad too hot for those taking part but the cloud cover helped cool things down a touch.

The runners made their way past famous London landmarks including the London Eye, Trafalgar Square and Nelson’s Column. Much of the course was the same as that being used for the men's and women's Olympic marathon courses in 2012.

Cathy Williams, Cancer Centre General Manager at Mount Vernon Hospital took part and said “I think this is the 3rd time I’ve run in the 10K to support the Paul Strickland Scanner Appeal and I really enjoy the atmosphere of this event with the flags and music, plus the spectator’s cheering everyone on. I hope our team raises a lot of money”.

Adrian Mallet who has raised the most sponsorship online, totalling £1192.31 commented “I really enjoyed taking part in the race, it was quite hot and there were so many other runners. It’s got such a lively atmosphere about it and I’m delighted to be able to help the Scanner Appeal”.
